UPDATE City Issues Travel Advisory Amid Icy Conditions through Friday, Feb. 25

New York City Emergency Management (EMS) issued a travel advisory on Thursday, Feb. 24, which is in effect through Friday, Feb. 25. The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory for New York City the same day which is also in effect until 1 p.m. on Friday.   According to Thursday’s forecast, snow was due to fall on Thursday night and change to a mix of sleet, rain, and possible freezing rain early Friday morning. Kingsbridge: Truck Stuck Under Subway Elevated Structure

A truck was pictured reportedly stuck and somewhat damaged under the subway elevated structure at W 238th Street and Broadway in the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx on Tuesday, Feb. 15.   Norwood News photographer, Miriam Quiñones, took a photo of the truck from her car at around 2.45 p.m. on Tuesday. UPDATE Bronx Park: Man Dies following Car Accident

  A 50-year-old man has died following a car accident in the vicinity of Bronx Park.   Police said on Sunday, Feb. 6, at approximately 5.13 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision on the southbound Bronx River Parkway at East Fordham Road. Upon arrival, they observed a vehicle that had been involved in a collision and a 50-year-old man with serious injuries.   EMS also responded and transported the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Jacobi, where he was pronounced deceased. The New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) has issued a travel advisory for Friday, Feb. 4 into Saturday, Feb. 5, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for New York City, which is in effect from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday. According to the latest forecast, a low-pressure system and its associated cold front, will bring freezing rain and sleet to the area beginning early Friday morning, before tapering off in the evening.   In addition, weather experts say periods of moderate rain are likely Thursday afternoon and overnight, producing 1.5 to 2 inches

Van Cortlandt Park: 27-Year-Old Man Found Dead, Investigation Opens

Police confirm a man has been found dead  in Van Cortlandt Park.   On Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 3.56 p.m., police said they responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man in Van Cortlandt Park, on the John Muir Trail, in the vicinity of the Henry Hudson Parkway and the Mosholu Parkway Extension.   Upon arrival, police discovered an unconscious and unresponsive 27-year-old man, lying face up near a stream.   The man was clothed and had no obvious signs of trauma. National Weather Service NYC Says Dense Fog Expected until Thursday, Feb. 3 at 10 A.M.

The New York City office of the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a dense fog advisory which is in effect until Thursday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m.   NWS officials said visibility would be around one quarter of a mile or less in the expected dense fog, which is due to hit portions of southeast New York, northeast New Jersey, southern Connecticut. They warned of hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility. “If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you,” officials said.    

UPDATE MTA: BX10 Bus Stop on E Gun Hill Road and Bainbridge Ave Temporarily Closed until March 26

  A flyer posted to the bus stop at East Gun Hill Road and Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood indicates that there is a temporary closure of the stop for the Bx10 bus (westbound) from Dec. 27, 2021 to March 26, 2022.     Photos show a heavy amount of snow surrounding the stop.   Norwood News reached out to the MTA for more information about the suspension, and were informed that they do not manage bus stops but suggested to contact NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) or NYC Department of Design & Construction (DDC) as the closure may be due
