Congress Approves AOC’s Funding Request for Jacobi Hospital’s Cure Violence Program, Among Others

  Congress has approved nine out of ten funding requests for community projects put forward by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), the congresswoman’s office confirmed on July 30. The various requests for the 2022 fiscal year included additional funding for Jacobi Hospital’s anti gun-violence initiative which Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. MTA Plans Intermittent Closures at RFK Bridge to/from Manhattan on Tuesday, Aug. 3

The MTA has announced that intermittent, full closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge to and from Manhattan are scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. to test mechanical functionality and allow completion of any routine preventative maintenance. Intermittent closures are planned for both directions. Each closure will last approximately 20 minutes. DOH Three-Day Mosquito Treatment on Bronx Marshes and Wetlands Starts Monday Aug. 2

To reduce mosquito activity and the risk of the West Nile virus, the City’s health department will conduct a third aerial “larviciding treatment” of the season on certain marshes and wetland areas in the Bronx from Monday, Aug. 2 to Wednesday, Aug. 4, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., weather permitting.   A helicopter will be used to treat non-residential areas only. While three days have been allotted for the aerial larviciding, the process may be completed in less time. In case of bad weather, the process will be delayed until Thursday, Aug. 5, to Friday, Aug.

Bedford Park: Gunman Sought in Decatur Avenue Shooting

Police are looking for a gunman who fired several shots on Decatur Avenue in Bedford Park, apparently striking the front window of an apartment building.   The NYPD confirmed that officers responded to a 911 call on Saturday, July 24, at approximately 4 a.m. following a complaint regarding shots fired in the rear yard of a two-family home located at 2850 Decatur Avenue, in the 52nd precinct, and carried out an investigation.   No arrests were made following the incident and the investigation is ongoing. UPDATE: Serious Bus Collision on Jerome Avenue in Norwood, Multiple Injuries

Video courtesy of Citizen This is a developing story.   A bus accident involving a Bee-line bus has been confirmed by police at 3660 Jerome Avenue in Norwood, close to Woodlawn subway station. Officers from the 52nd precinct were called to a Norwood building on Saturday after a woman reported being beaten by three women inside an apartment.   According to police, officers responded to a 911 call at 12.50 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, after a female victim told police that during a visit to see a person at 3361 Decatur Avenue, located between East 209th Street and East Gun Hill Road in Norwood, three women punched her and pulled her hair.   Officers reported that the victim had sustained multiple scratches to her body and a bloody lip. Trinitarios Gang Member Sentenced to Three Years for Witness Retaliation

Former Trinitarios gang member, Christian Nieves, also known as “Eric Rosario,” and “White Boy,” was sentenced on Tuesday, July 27, to three years in prison in connection with his retaliation against a witness who had testified at a previous, federal murder trial by slashing the witness across the neck with a blade.
