Bronx Street, Bridge Closures and General Transportation Updates as of May 5 through 2026

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), the MTA, NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), New York City Department of Design & Construction (DDC), the NYPD, and other government agencies and private entities have shared the following street and bridge closures and transportation updates for The Bronx through 2026, as of Friday, May 5.   Bridge & Street Closures  Broadway Bridge over the Harlem River Through 19, the right lane in each direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and an alternating center-lane in one of two directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 a.m.

UPDATE Crotona: 24-Year-Old Man Dies following Fatal Shooting

A 24-year-old man has died following a fatal shooting in the Crotona section of The Bronx.   Police said that on Saturday, May 6, at approximately 4.30 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at 4371 Third Avenue, just south of the Belmont border. “Upon arrival, officers determined that a 29-year-old male was shot in the chest at the location and was transported via private means to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” a police spokesperson said.   “A firearm was recovered. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing,”

Montefiore Chosen as Part of National Network of Centers in Rare Disease Diagnostics, Treatment & Research

The NY Center for Rare Diseases at Montefiore has become one of 40 academic medical centers selected to be part of a national network dedicated to diagnosing, treating, and researching all rare diseases, according to Montefiore Health System. UPDATE Two Women Shot by Reported Masked Man on Street in Apparent Unprovoked Daylight Assault

Two women were hospitalized after they were fired upon by a man in a shocking daylight shooting reportedly by a bus stop on the Grand Concourse in Fordham Heights earlier this week.   Police said that on Wednesday, May 3, at around 1.51 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault in progress at 2479 Grand Concourse, located in the 46th Precinct. “Upon arrival, officers observed a 44-year-old female victim with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, and a 52-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg,” a police spokesperson said. “Both victims were transported by EMS

Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center (MECC) Finds Low-Cost Treatment to Prevent Acute Radiation Dermatitis

Each year, according to Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center (MECC) researchers, 10 million people in the United States are treated with radiation therapy to reduce the size of their tumors. They said acute radiation dermatitis (ARD), characterized by red, sore, itchy, or peeling skin, affects up to 95 percent of people undergoing radiation treatment for cancer.   The researchers said that severe cases of ARD can cause significant swelling and painful skin ulcers that can severely impair quality of life. UPDATE Belmont: Missing 13-Year-Old Girl Located

  The New York City Police Department has said a 13-year-old girl reported missing from Belmont has been located.   Prior to the confirmation, police had said that Tatianna Strother of Belmont, The Bronx had last been seen on Monday, April 24, at around 2.40 p.m., leaving her school located in the Crotona section of The Bronx. Tatianna was described by police as female, Black, and prior to being located, had last been seen dressed in black and wearing a white headband. Kingsbridge Heights Intersection Co-named in Honor of Angellyh Yambo

The intersection of Bailey Place and Bailey Avenue in Kingsbridge Heights was officially co-named Angellyh Marieh Yambo Way on April 8, in honor of Angellyh Yambo, the 16-year-old teen who was born and grew up in the area, and who was tragically killed in broad daylight last year when she was hit by a stray bullet, shot by a 17-year-old male youth as she was walking home from school with friends in the Mott Haven section of the borough.   The unveiling ceremony was held on April 8, exactly one year after the tragedy, and was attended by dozens of

Williamsbridge: 69-Year-Old Man Found Unconscious Dies, 2nd Man Arrested on Assault Charges

The NYPD launched a murder investigation after a 69-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive on the street in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx, and died one week later.   Police said that on Tuesday, April 25, at approximately 4.47 a.m., EMS responded to a report of an aided, unconscious man in front of 3212 Cruger Avenue in Williamsbridge.
