  Karla Cabrera Carrera, the former assistant district manager of Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7), was elected as the new district manager for the board during CB7’s general board meeting held April 27. Cabrera Carrera was voted in following 20 votes in the affirmative and 6 abstentions.   She has been hired at a salary of $96,000 per annum. UPDATE Norwood: Man Reported Missing Has Returned Home in Good Health

The NYPD said that a Norwood man reported missing on Sunday, May 7, has returned home.   Prior to returning home, as reported, police said Robert Lang of Tryon Avenue in Norwood had last been seen on Saturday, May 6, at around 11 p.m. leaving his home. He was described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 215 pounds, with a light complexion, a medium build, brown eyes and gray hair. Community Goes Green as Earth Day is Celebrated in Norwood and Fordham Manor

  Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District (BID) held a free Earth Day event, together with Friends of Mosholu Parkland (FOMP), at the Jerome Garden Plaza under Mosholu Parkway subway station by Jerome Avenue in Norwood on Saturday, April 22, 2023.   From noon to 3 p.m., volunteers joined kids and BID and FOMP representatives for a community clean-up, beautification, giveaways, healthy food, and other activities.    Elizabeth Quaranta, executive director of FOMP and who also runs the Keeper’s House Community “Edible” Garden on the Reservoir Oval in Norwood, is recovering from a knee injury but didn’t miss the event.

Yonkers: Construction of New Multifamily Rental Property & Retail Space at 70 Pier Street Underway

Developers and local officials recently gathered to celebrate the beginning of construction of a new multifamily rental property at 70 Pier Street in Yonkers, as reported by YIMBY.   Led by Ginsburg Development Companies, the four-story building is located in the city’s Ludlow neighborhood and will eventually contain 36 rental apartments, ground-floor retail space, and parking garage for up to 35 vehicles.   Prior to demolition, 70 Pier Street was occupied by a low-rise office building and garage used by the Yonkers Parking Authority, which Ginsburg acquired in June 2017, according to YIMBY.
