UPDATE Fordham Heights: 14-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot

  A 14-year-old boy has been fatally shot in Fordham Heights, police said.   A police spokesperson said on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at around 9.15 p.m. officers from the 46th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a male who had been shot in front of 2249 Morris Avenue. “Upon arrival, officers observed a 14-year-old male [with] a gunshot wound to the torso,” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”   As reported, an unnamed, 17-year-old girl has since been arrested on murder and other charges in connection to

Federal Authorities Recall Indigo-Branded Papa and Mama Bear Mugs Due to Burn & Laceration Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (UPC) recalled, on Nov. 23, 270 Indigo-branded “Papa Bear” and “Mama Bear” mugs sold in the U.S. with batch numbers 1220, 0621, 1021 or 0920. A further 29,232 of the mugs were sold in Canada. “Indigo” and the batch number are printed on the bottom of the mugs. Federal Authorities Recall Some Bendex Disney-Themed Clothing Due to Potential Lead Poisoning Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (UPC) recalled 87,000 units of some Bendex-branded, children’s Disney-themed clothing sets on Nov. 23, citing safety concerns.   Authorities said the textile ink painted on the recalled clothing sets contains levels of lead that exceed either the federal lead paint ban, or the federal lead content ban, posing a lead poisoning hazard. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues.   The recall involves Bentex children’s clothing sets in nine different, Disney-themed styles. The item and batch numbers are printed on the clothing neck or side label.

Yonkers Teenager Charged in Shooting of 15-Year-Old

Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced on Tuesday, Nov. 21, that Yonkers resident, Joseph Tejera, 19, was charged in connection with the October 2022 shooting of a 15-year-old in the City of Yonkers. $3 Million for Montefiore to Engage Fathers, Improve Child Welfare among Families at Risk of Substance Abuse

The Administration for Children and Families, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has awarded researchers at Montefiore Health System a $3 million grant to improve the well-being of families, by helping fathers with substance use disorders.
