Bainbridge Bakery Reopens after Devastating Fire
Three months after a devastating fire ripped through Norwood’s Bainbridge Avenue last October destroying a row of local stores, employees at the popular Bainbridge Bakery are back behind the counter and, once again, providing the community with their baked treats, the owners having opened a new store across the street from the original location.
Youth Cite Benefits of Restorative Justice Program
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81) presented a check for $250,000 to Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) on Monday, Nov. 6, to support its restorative justice program at the Norwood-based center (MMCC), in the presence of some of the young course participants and course facilitators. Dinowitz said the funding will help support “anti-gun, anti-drug, anti-violence, and anti-gang programs for teens.”

Fordham Heights: Torres Awards $800K for Urban Farming Program in 20 Schools
U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY-15) has awarded $800,000 in community project funding to New York Sun Works, a local nonprofit dedicated to integrating the science of sustainability and climate education into K-12 urban schools. Torres visited X225 Theatre Arts Production Company School in Fordham Heights on Monday, Oct. 30, to see their hydroponic program in action and to formally make the check presentation in a classroom dedicated to the program.
Elections 2023: Democratic CM Marjorie Velázquez Concedes District 13 Race to Republican Kristy Marmorato
Democratic District 13 City Council Member Marjorie Velázquez conceded the general election in her district held Nov. 7 to her Republican opponent, Kirsty Marmorato, on Thursday, Nov. 9. As reported, Marmorato had a narrow lead on Velázquez on Election Night at poll closure with 49.97 percent of the vote to Velázquez’s 49.25 percent, but a few hours later, with 98.33 percent of voting scanners returned, Marmorato’s lead had stretched to 52.46 percent (6,571 votes) to Velázquez’s 46.81 percent (5,863 votes), based on Election Day and early votes. The Republican candidate who ran a campaign based on quality of life and public safety concerns, declared victory in the race later that night.
