After police announced that they arrested a 20-year-old man from Hunts Point on murder charges in the context of an investigation into a 2-year-old boy from the South Bronx who had been reported missing, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson released a statement Friday, saying The Bronx was in mourning and absolute shock. Democratic congress members, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Rep. Nydia Velázquez (NY-7), were refused entry to the 10th floor of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan on Sunday, June 8, when they attempted to conduct oversight of the facility amid allegations of “overcrowding, unbearable heat, and people being forced to sleep on bathroom floors.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order on Sunday, June 8, to legally recognize the working definition of antisemitism as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). According to the mayor’s office, the order was signed “to facilitate constructive discourse, further understanding, and enable a thoughtful response to antisemitic hate in New York City.”
