UPDATE Benjamin Franklin Reform Dems to Consider Endorsement of Bronx District Attorney

Representatives of The Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club (BFRDC) have announced that the club will hold club leadership elections during its annual meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. In addition to some club business, club representatives said the following endorsement will be considered: Shall the Club Make an Endorsement for Bronx District Attorney? They added that if the answer is yes, recognized candidates, Darcel Clark and Tess Cohen, will speak and answer questions. Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7) held their final board meeting of 2022 on Dec. 13, following a successful annual tree-lighting event in Bedford Park on Dec. 8. The meeting was attended by around two dozen people, updates were shared by the different CB7 committee chairs and concerns of some community members were also heard. The meeting was the first to be presided over by recently elected Bronx CB7 chair, Yajaira Arias, following her election to the position on Nov. 15. As reported, Arias, the incumbent CB7 secretary, succeeds Emmanuel Martinez, who stepped down as chair in the summer of 2022.

Following an inquiry on Saturday evening, Nov. 12, by Norwood News on the status of previously reported missing person, Michelle Morales, 21, of Fordham Manor, after the 21-year-old woman had been reported missing earlier this week and later located on Nov. 9, the NYPD informed us the same day that Morales was reported missing for a second time. Democratic Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez (A.D. 80) has declared victory in her State senate general election race in S.D. 34, having secured 64.74 percent of the total votes by 10.55 p.m. on Election Night, based on early voting and Election Day vote unofficial tallies. Absentee and overseas ballots still have to be counted. Her opponent, Republican, Samantha Zherka, won 35.16 percent of the vote on Election Night, as reported. After the polls closed on Tuesday, Nov. 8, the New York City Board of Elections released the initial, unofficial results of the general elections, based on a percentage of returned poll site scanners. These initial results cover both early votes and election day votes. Absentee and overseas ballots still have to be counted, as do the remaining scanners.
