A 29-year-old man has died following a scooter collision in the Belmont section of The Bronx.

On Thursday, March 24, at approximately 10.32 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man who was lying on the roadway at Southern Boulevard near Crotona Avenue, in the Belmont section of the Bronx.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 29-year-old man, lying on the roadway, with trauma to the body. The aided man was lying next to a motorized scooter with sustained damage. EMS responded to the scene and transported the man to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the gas-powered scooter driver has been traveling along Southern Boulevard, when it hit a parked, unattended 2020 Honda Accord, just north of Crotona Avenue. Upon impact with the parked vehicle, the scooter driver was thrown from the vehicle and onto the roadway.

The deceased has been identified as Jorge Abril, 29, of Prospect Avenue in the Belmont section of The Bronx.
