A 93-year-old female pedestrian has died following a hit ‘n run collision in the Wakefield section of The Bronx, police said.

An NYPD spokesperson said that on Monday, June 29, at around 2.26 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian who was struck at the intersection of East 225th Street and White Plains Road, within the confines of the 47th Precinct.

They said further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) determined that a 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle, driven by a 31-year-old man, had been traveling eastbound on East 225th Street, approaching White Plains Road, when he struck a 93-year-old female pedestrian who was crossing southbound within the marked crosswalk on White Plains Road.

They said EMS responded and transported the woman to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where she was pronounced deceased. They said the driver of the motorcycle fled the scene eastbound on East 225th Street, there are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s CIS team.

The deceased was later identified as Lenora Campbell from the Woodlawn Heights section of The Bronx.

With CIS investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
