“Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen,” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the female to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where she was subsequently pronounced deceased. Police said the deceased has been identified as Julia Anderson of Mount Vernon.
Devin Whitehead, who was at the scene, said a black jeep was observed behind the cordoned off crime scene area as detectives carried out their investigation. He said the jeep had a shattered front passenger window from two apparent bullet holes.
Whitehead also said he saw surgical gloves typically used by emergency responders scattered on the street at the scene, and some splattered blood on the ground near where the driver would enter or exit the vehicle.
Norwood News later asked the NYPD how many occupants had been in the car. Police said they don’t have this information. In response to some other questions, police said they found the woman shot outside the vehicle. “I believe she was in the vehicle, and it appears that she fell out of the vehicle after she was shot,” a police spokesperson said.
In the attached photo of the crime scene, the driver side door is open. Asked if they knew if the woman had been in the passenger seat or the driver’s seat prior to the shooting, police said they didn’t know. Norwood News asked what was the direction of the gunshot and police said it came from outside the vehicle towards and into the vehicle.
Asked if the woman was the owner of the vehicle, police said they didn’t [yet] have that information.
Pursuant to an ongoing
They said he was charged with murder, manslaughter, and 10 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
