A 55-year-old man has died following a shooting in the Mt. Hope section of The Bronx, police said. Norwood News has received as yet unconfirmed reports that the victim was a cab driver and was found deceased in a burning car.
Police said that on Thursday, Jan. 1, at around 6.54 a.m., officers from the 46th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot in the vicinity of Morris Avenue and Cross Bronx Expressway.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 55-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the head,” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.”
Police said the deceased has been identified as Issa Mbolo-Isac from the Throggs Neck section of The Bronx.
The FDNY separately confirmed that the department responded to a 911 call for a report of a fire at 1752 Morris Avenue and that one patient was found deceased at the location. They said the cause of the fire is not yet known, the incident was closed at 7:30 a.m. and that no further information is yet available. We asked if it was a car which was on fire at the location provided and await confirmation.
