An MTA bus crashed into a retaining wall outside a residential building in the Mosholu section of The Bronx, east of North Riverdale, late on Monday night, Sept. 22, according to posts seen on the Citizens’ App.
Videos show a stationary MTA bus with the one section elevated and crashed into the wall close to a multistory residential building located at 6629 Broadway.
Norwood News contacted the FDNY, the NYPD, and the MTA for more details about the incident as well as any potential injuries sustained. An FDNY spokesperson later said the department received a call at 10.47 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle accident at 6629 Broadway between West 260th Street and West 261st Street.
They said one person was transported to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in Inwood, and that neither the description nor the condition of the patient was known.

The NYPD later said that on Monday, Sept. 22, at around 10.45 p.m., officers from the 50th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision at 6629 Broadway.
“Upon arrival, it was reported to police that a 37-year-old male MTA bus operator had exited the bus and turned the vehicle off. As the operator walked away, the bus began to roll backwards onto the sidewalk and struck a retaining wall,” a police spokesperson said.
“The MTA bus was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported. The building was not struck and received no damage. There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.”

In one of the posted videos, FDNY units are seen at the site of the crash as residents and others are also seen milling around the scene.

As reported, in January this year, there were no injuries reported after an MTA bus also crashed into a wall by Independence Avenue in the Spuyten Duyvil section of the borough after seemingly failing to navigate a turn.
Two people were injured in the South Bronx in June 2023, as reported, following a crash involving a scooter and an MTA bus.
As also reported, in July 2021, 14 people were injured in a horrific crash involving a Beeline bus underneath the elevated train tracks on Jerome Avenue after two SUVs collided in the vicinity of Woodlawn station in Norwood.

The NYPD investigates all criminal aspects of collision investigations while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the sites of such crashes.
