UPDATE Fordham Heights: 29-Year-Old Man Arrested following Fatal Shooting

A 29-year-old man has been arrested following the murder of another man in Fordham Heights.

 

On Wednesday, July 13, at approximately 1.06 a.m., police responded to a 911 call about a person who had been shot in front of 2323 Grand Concourse, located in the 46th Precinct.

 

An NYPD spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 34-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the torso. EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.” The spokesperson added, “There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”

 

The deceased has been identified as Melquan Cooper, 34, of 2327 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY.

 

On July 26, the NYPD said Justin Reyes, 29, of Metropolitan Avenue in the Parkchester section of The Bronx was arrested in the context of the case and has been charged with alleged murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
