Police said a young man has been shot in the Belmont section of the Bronx near 663 Crescent Avenue and is likely to survive.

The address provided was for a tax business. On arrival in Belmont, Norwood News saw that police had cordoned off a section of nearby Cambreleng Avenue at the intersection of East 187th Street, outside Nashley Barbershop, located at 2400 Cambreleng Avenue.
A local worker told us that was indeed where the shooting had taken place.

A police spokeswoman later said that à 21-year-old male was shot at 2.19 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, in the torso, and was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and is stable.
She added that one person (no description) was taken into custody.

A woman who said she was looking after an elderly person in a nearby building to the barbershop told Norwood News she heard an argument and then gunshots.

Asked if she could describe the argument, she said she thought she could hear a woman but couldn’t make out what was said and didn’t see anything as she was in the back of the building.

Another woman who spoke to Norwood News on condition of anonymity said she heard from local people that a Venezuelan prostitution ring was being run out of the building. Norwood News is unable to validate this assertion but will share any further information we obtain / receive.

The same woman said she heard that seven shots were allegedly fired. Seven cones / markers were seen at the crime scene marking the shell casings.

Another woman we spoke to alleged there were often gangs hanging out in the vicinity of the Barbershop who fight among themselves and that she had also witnessed adults of different sexual orientations lined up on the opposite side of the street to the barbershop selling their bodies.

Some of the windows on the higher floors of the building were seen boarded up / taped over.
Several young men were seen outside the corner store close to the crime scene on the day of the shooting. They either declined to be interviewed or said they did not know anything about what happened.

Norwood News also spoke to some employees at some local businesses but they each said they did not know what happened.
Another man who was visiting à friend in the area said it was a good neighborhood with hard-working people and that he never saw any pattern of problems.
