The Bronx County Historical Society (BCHS) and The Fox and King (TFAK), an artist development, booking and media agency located in
The Bronx, has announced a very special pop-up exhibit as part of the “Uptown Rumble: Heavy Music in The Bronx” series live at The Bronx Brewery. The joint collaboration will explore the rich history of heavy metal and hardcore punk music in The Bronx, while also celebrating The Fox and King’s 14th anniversary.
Curated by Dr. Steven Payne (director of BCHS), Chucky Brown (frontman for New York hardcore punk band, Crazy Eddie) and Jeo Estrella, the pop-up show will feature four heavy-hitting New York-based bands, custom flash tattoos, local vendors and memorabilia from iconic rock bands in The Bronx.
The renowned exhibit originally debuted at The Bronx County Historical Society back in April which featured photographs, oral histories and written accounts from Bronx bands and musicians playing heavy metal, hardcore punk and hard rock music in the borough, spanning from the late 1960s to the early 2000s. The exhibit was curated to showcase and preserve a piece of music history from The Bronx.
“Uptown Rumble: Heavy music in The Bronx invites you to engage with The Bronx’s unsung but critical role in the creation, evolution, performance and enjoyment of heavy music,” according to the exhibit’s website. “From the fuzzy psychedelic rock of the ‘60s, to the explosion of punk rock in the ‘70s followed by its street-tough New York hardcore offspring, to the early rumblings of thrash and death metal in the ‘80s, the Boogie Down has thrown down with heavy music’s best.”
Made possible by New York State Senator, Gustavo Rivera, and the New York State Council on the Arts, “Uptown Rumble” will be on display at The Museum of Bronx History at Valentine-Vavarian House, located at 3266 Bainbridge Avenue, Bronx, NY 10467, from now through November and free for all patrons. The Fox and King’s pop-up show will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, with tickets on sale now for $5 on POSH and on the day of the show.
