Bronx Attorney Gets 10 Years for Attempting to Entice a 14-Year-Old Minor from Connecticut for Sex

A Bronx attorney was sentenced to 10 years in prison in federal court on Friday, for attempting to entice a minor believed to be 14 years of age for sex, after he pleaded guilty to the charge in March 2024, federal prosecutors said. Damian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced on Friday, Oct. 18, that Tong Hyon Suh, a/k/a “Jason Suh,” was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Cathy Seibel for his attempted enticement of the minor.

Bronx District Leader & BOE Employee Charged with Bribery, Extortion, Fraud, and Identity Theft

Nicole Torres, 33, of The Bronx, an elected district leader in the borough, and an employee of the New York City Board of Elections (BOE) has been charged  with illegally demanding payments from Bronx residents to herself and a local organization (the “Bronx organization”) in exchange for selecting those individuals as poll workers, federal prosecutors announced on Aug. 28. 

Two Bronx Men Sentenced for 2014 Harlem Murder

Federal prosecutors announced on May 29 that two Bronx men were sentenced for the 2014 murder of a Harlem man. Damian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said that Carlos Laureano, 35, was sentenced on May 23, to 30 years in prison for the murder of Luis Perez on August 12, 2014, and Nnandi Ben-Jochannan, 30, was sentenced on May 29 to 10 years for his role in the murder.

Two Bronx Fentanyl Dealers Linked to Eight Overdoses Plead Guilty in Federal Court

Federal prosecutors announced on May 30 that two Bronx men, Jesus Cabrera, 44, a/k/a “Gee,” and Michael Amaya, 42, a/k/a “Miz,” pled guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and fentanyl analogue, and Cabrera also pled guilty to a related firearm count. As part of the conspiracy, prosecutors said Cabrera and Amaya distributed the fentanyl and fentanyl analogue that resulted in the death of Malik Rahman on August 25, 2021, and added that both defendants pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald.
