Phipps Neighborhoods, a non-profit social service provider in New York City, announced on March 16 that it is joining forces with several local employers to co-host a job fair on Thursday, March 30, at 1071A East Tremont Avenue in the West Farms section of The Bronx. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and both part-time and full-time positions will be on offer.

Phipps representatives said that according to statistics from the New York State Department of Labor, by borough, the lowest unemployment rate was recorded in Manhattan, at a seasonally adjusted 5.9 percent as of December 2022. By contrast, The Bronx recorded the highest unemployment rate of all five New York City boroughs, at 7.5 percent.

As a result of these numbers, Phipps Neighborhoods officials say the organization is joining forces with local employers to help bridge the unemployment gap between the boroughs. The partner employers who will co-host the job fair are Phipps Neighborhoods/Phipps Houses, ACS, The Bridge NY, The Community Healthcare Network, Dennelisse Corporation, DocGo, Goodtemp, The Jewish Home, Metro Plus, NYPD-Transportation Unit, Osbourne Association, Reserve – Fedcap, RJ Security, and West Farms Workforce 1.

In addition to empowering young people to access career pathways, officials from Phipps Neighborhoods said the organization also serves the community by providing integrated programs that wrap around the whole family to create a legacy of economic stability, opportunities for upward mobility, and educational success that passes from one generation to the next.

They added that Phipps Neighborhoods envisions a New York City where community members of all ages have meaningful opportunities to realize their potential, build skills, and strengthen their neighborhoods. “We create safe, inclusive spaces where community members access education, career, and economic opportunities to succeed at school and work, raise healthy families and build thriving communities,” representatives for the organization said.

Prospective employees can RSVP for the job fair by filling out the form here, and a flyer for the event can be downloaded here.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts.
