The Vegan Street Fair, known for its North Hollywood, California annual festival that garners 40,000 attendees from all around the world, according to organizers, has set its sights on eight new markets in a mission to continue making veganism mainstream for the masses. UPDATE Elections 2023: CFB Approves May “Matching Funds” Payments to City Council Candidates

  New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) approved on May 15 “matching funds” payments to various 2023 city council candidates for election in the upcoming June primaries. New York City’s landmark small-dollar public matching funds program helps candidates rely on New York City residents, and not special interests, to fund their election campaigns.   The voluntary program “matches” small contributions from NYC residents paid to candidates, allowing candidates who participate in the program to receive up to $2,000 in public funds per eligible contributor.   CFB officials said the latest approved funds totaled $733,844 for 18 city council candidates citywide,

Kingsbridge Heights: Woman Robbed Aboard Train While Sleeping

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help locating the people seen in the attached photos who department officials say are sought in connection to a robbery that occurred in Kingsbridge Heights.   Police said that on Saturday, May 6, at around 4 a.m., a 27-year-old female victim was onboard a northbound 4 subway approaching the East Kingsbridge Road station, when two people stole her handbag from her lap while she was sleeping.   Police said, “Property stolen included the victim’s handbag, which contained a cellphone, wallet, credit cards, personal ID and other personal items.” They added, “The two individuals

Bedford Park: Three Sought in Robbery of 65-Year-Old Woman

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the people seen in the attached photo who department officials said are sought in connection to a robbery that occurred in Bedford Park.   Police said that on Sunday, May 14, at around 10.45 a.m., the victim, a 65-year-old woman, was walking in front of 2955 Decatur Avenue when she was approached by three unknown people. “The individuals snatched the victim’s purse causing her to fall to the ground,” a police spokesperson said. “The purse contained $101 and credit cards.”   Police said the group fled northbound on Decatur Avenue.   Bronx nurses were honored and celebrated for their dedication and service during Nurses Week 2023.   At NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, nurses were showered with various honors to mark the occasion. Assembly Member John Zaccaro Jr. (A.D. 80), a Democrat, visited Jacobi Medical Center, part of the City’s public hospital system, on Friday, May 15, and presented a proclamation to the nursing staff there in recognition of Nurses Week, which celebrates nurses across the country for all they do. UPDATE Baychester: 10 Hospitalized following Motor Vehicle Collision

Officials from The Fire Department of New York said 10 people were transported to hospital following a motor vehicle collision on Monday afternoon in Baychester, south of Co-op City, and one further person was also injured but not hospitalized.   The incident was reported at 3.18 p.m. at Einstein Loop North and Hutchinson River Parkway East on Monday, May 15, and involved four separate vehicles.   An NYPD spokeswoman said an 80-year-old man was driving a jeep traveling northbound on Hutchinson River Parkway when he collided at the intersection with a yellow school bus, driven by a 72-year-old woman.
