A courageous older woman started her day alert enough to successfully fight off a prospective thief in the Norwood section of the Bronx, police said. The NYPD is now asking for the public’s help identifying the person seem in the attached photo and video who they say is wanted in connection to the attempted robbery.
Police said that on Friday, May 2, at around 7.40 a.m. a 68-year-old woman was parked in her vehicle opposite 3290 Webster Avenue, when she was approached by an identified male. “The individual threw a rock and broke the driver side window, then opened the car door and removed her purse,” a police spokesperson said. “A physical altercation ensued, and the victim was able to retrieve her purse. No property was removed, and the individual fled the location on foot, traveling northbound on Webster Avenue.”

Police said there were no physical injuries reported as a result of this incident and described the suspect as a male with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt and a purple vest.
As reported, another woman was assaulted and robbed while inside her parked car on Hull Avenue also in Norwood one year ago, in May 2024.
