Norwood: 18-Year-Old Girl Shot on Jerome Avenue near Van Cortlandt Park

An 18-year-old girl was shot on Jerome Avenue just north of the Norwood section of The Bronx in the early hours of Sunday, May 3, police said.

 

An NYPD spokesperson said that on May 3 at around 4.46 a.m., officers from the 50th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a person who had been shot and who was a walk-in at 111 East 210th Street, the address for Montefiore Medical Center in Norwood.

 

“Upon arrival, officers were informed that an 18-year-old female sustained a gunshot wound to the left arm in the vicinity of 3751 Jerome Avenue,” a police spokesperson said.

The location is on a stretch of Jerome Avenue past Woodlawn subway station, where (if facing north) Woodlawn Cemetery is on the right and access to the Allen Shandler Recreation Area inside Van Cortlandt Park is on the left, close to the entrance to Mosholu Golf Course & Driving Range.

 

Norwood News asked the NYPD if the woman was shot inside the park or on Jerome Avenue. A spokesperson responded to say that the shooting took place on Jerome Avenue.

As reported, human remains were found inside the park close to the same area in December 2025.

 

Police said the victim was transported by private means to the local hospital in stable condition, that there are no arrests at this time, and that the investigation remains ongoing.
