Hours after Connecticut police announced the arrests of two additional suspects sought in connection with the triple Kingsbridge shooting at West 238th Street and Broadway on Feb. 11, that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Christopher Redding, the young teen’s father, Bryan Corley, said he was elated that three of the four suspects are now in custody.
Speaking to Norwood News by phone on Saturday, March 21, Corley said, “I’m very proud that the police are doing their job. We thought that no one was really on the job; I’m glad they proved me wrong. I’m glad to admit that I was wrong.” As reported, the after-school shooting sent shockwaves through the local community.
Police later identified those sought for questioning in connection to the shooting and on Feb. 14, the NYPD announced the arrest of an unnamed 17-year-old male in connection with the shooting. They continue to search for an as yet unidentified female who they say is wanted for questioning in connection to the case. Of the female suspect, Corley said, “Hopefully, they’ll find her.”

According to documents obtained by Norwich Police Department in Connecticut, investigators had been conducting surveillance on a Rhoquan Franklin, who had an open active felony arrest warrant [unrelated to Christopher’s shooting we understand] when his vehicle was stopped in Connecticut on March 4.
Police said Franklin was taken into custody, and detectives also began to question the male seated in the back seat of the car Franklin was driving. They later identified him as Zion Martinez, 19, of Southern Boulevard in the South Bronx. Prior to being identified, according to the criminal complaint obtained from Connecticut police, Martinez told detectives they would “have to go the long way” to identify him.
Connecticut police went on to say that Martinez was charged with possessing “3.600 grams” of fentanyl as well as “interfering with an officer” before detectives learned that Martinez had an outstanding warrant for homicide. Connecticut also said Martinez was additionally charged with a “fugitive from justice” warrant and was held on $500,000 bond, and was expected at an extradition hearing in Connecticut on March 19.
On March 20, members of the Norwich Police Department, the Connecticut State Police, the Emergency Services Unit, and the United States Marshals Task Force executed a search warrant in the city of Norwich, CT, for Anthony Caballero, 19, from the Little Yemen section of The Bronx. Norwich police also said that at the time of the execution of the search warrant, Caballero was surrounded by police officers and refused to answer calls to surrender.
They went on to say that after a standoff of an hour and a half, a police (K-9) dog named “Ado” was deployed at the same location and found Caballero hiding in a closet. They said he surrendered after Ado bit him twice on his lower and upper left arm. They added that Caballero was held on a $1 million bond.

On March 27, as reported, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced that Caballero, Martinez, and Caballero’s 17-year-old brother were indicted by a grand jury on charges of murder, manslaughter, and assault in connection with Christopher’s death. In announcing the indictment at the time, as reported, Clark said, “A promising boy was cut down by a bullet, and another boy and girl were wounded as they ran from gunfire near a busy intersection at 5 p.m.”
She added, “This is another heartbreaking loss of our young people to death, trauma and prison. We must stem the flow of illegal guns.” According to the Bronx DA’s office, the trio also face charges relating to weapons possession and reckless endangerment. All three youths are being held without bail, and are due back in court in June.
All the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
Meanwhile, Norwood News asked Corley about a “Safer Streets” rally held on March 10, as reported, outside the Kingsbridge Armory on West Kingsbridge Road in Kingsbridge Heights, organized by clergy and various cure violence groups, at which he was scheduled to speak but never made it. Corley explained, “Yeah, that was too much for us because at the time, we felt like we weren’t getting any type of justice.”

Corley said, “Near the school he used to go to, there’s a playground he always used to go to, they’re trying to get it named after him.” Currently the petition has 2,680 signatures as of April 25. To read the petition, click here.
