FDNY confirm that a dual fire alarm was raised on Friday, May 8, at 1:08 a.m., at a six-story building at 2840 Sedgwick Ave. Twenty-five fire units and 106 FDNY members deployed to the scene. One firefighter incurred a minor injury and was transported to New York-Presbyterian hospital. The fire was brought under control at 2:24 a.m., and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Norwood News is following up with the FDNY on the cause of the fire.

Mott Haven: Woman’s Hair Set On Fire

At approximately 1:38 a.m. this morning, May 11, police confirm that an adult female was engaged in a dispute with two other adult females in Mott Haven. One of the two females placed a lit cigarette on the hair of the female victim, before fleeing the location on foot. The female victim was not injured and refused any medical attention at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing. The incident location was the vicinity of 2640 3rd Avenue, Bronx. A few dozen staff members at one local Bronx hospital took a few minutes out of from their busy day on May 8 to applaud their collective efforts in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, as they said goodbye to the hospital’s thousandth patient to have recovered from the virus. Starting Monday, the Bronx will no longer be the only borough in New York City without a kosher food distribution site as part of the City’s Get Food program. On May 5, Mayor Bill de Blasio warned New Yorkers on Twitter that if their children were experiencing persistent fever, rash, abdominal pain or vomiting, to call a doctor right away. The previous day, City health officials had issued a bulletin to New York City health care providers instructing them to immediately report any patients under 21 who displayed these symptoms. Mount Eden: 39-year-old Male Shot in Both Legs

Police confirm that a 39-year-old male was shot once in each leg by a 23-year-old male after a dispute on 7 May, 2020. The incident location reported to police was Walton Avenue and Elliot Place. The victim was taken to Lincoln hospital in a stable condition. The 23-year-old suffered a head injury and was also taken to Lincoln hospital, in a stable condition. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on May 7 that, beginning next week, antibody testing will be offered on an appointment-only basis for approximately two weeks in Morrisania, East New York, Upper Manhattan, Concord, and Long Island City. It took just 15 minutes for City workers to run out of free face coverings at a mask distribution site in Williamsbridge Oval Park on Tuesday, May 5.
