Lehman’s Performing Arts Center Secures More than $1.1 Million in Funding for Reopening

Wakefield: Lottery Open for New Affordable Housing Complex

Son Shot Dead, Father in Custody after Shoot-Out with Police following Group Dispute

UPDATE: DOT Calls for Expansion of Speed Cameras in School Zones following Bronx Fatal Crash

NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Hank Gutman is calling for the expanded use of cameras in school zones, following two fatal crashes which occurred over the weekend, one on East Fordham Road in the Bronx and one in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.    Under prevailing State legislation, cameras in school zones can only legally operate between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., Monday to Friday.   “This weekend saw two high-speed, fatal crashes on our streets, both of which occurred within school zones, near speed cameras we aren’t legally allowed to operate,” said Gutman. “Once again, we urge the

Belmont: Permits Filed for 2330 Cambreleng Avenue

A building permit application has been filed to construct an eight-story, residential building at 2330 Cambreleng Avenue in the Belmont section of the Bronx, as reported by YIMBY.   Located between East 187th Street and East 183rd Street, the lot is closest to the 182-183 Streets subway station, serviced by the B and D trains. 41-Year-Old Man Dies in Norwood Residential Building

  The NYPD recently confirmed a 41-year-old man died in a Norwood apartment.   According to police spokeswoman, Detective Annette Shelton, officers from the 52nd precinct were called to 333 East 209th Street at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 21.   Shelton said of the incident, “Upon arrival, a 41-year-old male was discovered unconscious, lying in the hallway of the location.” She added, “EMS responded and pronounced the male deceased.”   The deceased man’s name was not immediately released as it was pending proper family notification. Three Homicides Reported in Night of Violence across The Bronx

  Bronx homicide detectives are working overtime this weekend after at least five people were shot, three fatally, in less than 24-hours.   According to the NYPD, and as reported, the first incident was reported at 4:09 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, when officers from the 52nd precinct responded to a report of an assault inside 2550 Bainbridge Avenue. Officers discovered a man, later identified by police as Jayquan Lewis, 21, of Fordham Manor, lying unconscious and unresponsive inside the location. Fordham Manor: 21-Year-Old Man Shot, Dies

A 21-year-old man has died following a shooting in Fordham Manor.   Police responded to a call about an assault inside 2550 Bainbridge Avenue, located in the 52nd precinct on Friday, Aug. 13, at approximately 4.09 p.m.   Upon arrival, officers observed a 21-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, lying unconscious and unresponsive inside the location.  EMS responded and transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.   No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.   The deceased has been identified as Jayquan Lewis of Fordham Manor in the Bronx.
