Bronx Notes: Street Dedication for Late Five-Two Officer

The 52nd Precinct invites the public to its street renaming dedication in tribute to Police Officer Eric Hernandez, who was killed in 2006 by fellow officers during a fight at a White Castle restaurant. The street sign, which will read “The P.O. Eric Hernandez Memorial Corner,” will be placed on Webster Avenue and Mosholu Parkway North, on Saturday, July 28 at 11 a.m. across the street from the precinct which is located at 3016 Webster Ave. Lunch follows the ceremony. UNHP Opens Northwest Bronx Resource Center

After nearly 30 years of service, the University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP) celebrated a new milestone with the opening of the Northwest Bronx Resource Center on Thursday morning.

4 Injured in Marion Ave. Apartment Fire

A fire late Tuesday afternoon at a multi-family row house in Bedford Park left four people injured, one very seriously. More than 60 fire fighters responded to a call about a fire at 2779 Marion Ave. shortly after 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the FDNY press office, the fire began in a second-floor apartment of the building and left one person with serious injuries and three people with minor injuries. Tenants in U-Heights Forced to Vacate After Fire Escape Fiasco

Days after being assured by her landlord that the broken window in her apartment was just damage from renovations, Cynthia Curry returned home from work on June 4 to find a notice saying she needed to vacate her University Heights building within 48 hours. An hour later, the notice was cut in half by the Fire Department, giving Curry, her two sons, her two grandchildren and her son’s girlfriend less than 24 hours to pack up their belongings and find someplace else to live.
