Bronx District Attorney Hosts Child Safety Fair in Edenwald

Hundreds of Bronxites turned out for the 6th Annual Child Safety Fair hosted by the Office of Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, held at the Baychester Community Center, located at 1220 East 229th Street in Edenwald on Saturday, April 15.   Outside the community center the NYPD shutdown Schieffelin Avenue where a basketball station and a bouncy house was set up for the daylong event. Dozens of tables were set up inside and outside the center as various city agencies and local nonprofits provided information on healthcare and various programs. As Worshippers Return for Holy Week Services, One Lector Discusses Addiction Concerns & Mental Health

  Worshippers once again returned in person for the annual Passion of the Christ Reenactment in Bedford Park with several hundred parishioners and passersby seen watching members of Our Lady of Refuge congregation reenacting the Good Friday procession and  crucifixion.   The event was held outside Our Lady of Refuge church, located at 290 East 196th Street on Friday, April 7, as the street was shut down between Bainbridge Avenue and Briggs Avenue. Why Do Kids Get Type 2 Diabetes? $4.1M Grant to Help Montefiore Einstein Researchers Investigate

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is surging among U.S. children, according to officials at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Albert Einstein College of Medicine (together, Montefiore-Einstein). The number of young people under the age of 20 living with the disease has nearly doubled between 2001 and 2017, they said and yet, aside from increases in childhood obesity, the reasons for this disturbing increase are not clear.   The good news is that the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has awarded Montefiore-Einstein a six-year, $4.1 million grant

St. Philip Neri School Honors First Responders

Students at St. Philip Neri School in Bedford Park want first responders to know how much their service means to them. On Jan. 31, more than 50 first responders, including police officers, firefighters, and EMTs were invited to attend a special mass at St. Philip Neri Church, located right next to the school. DSNY Tells “Garbage” New Yorkers Where to Stick It with New We ❤️ NYC Ads

The preponderance of litter and dog waste on the City’s sidewalks remains a scourge to residents. On Monday, April 10, New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY), in collaboration with the Partnership for New York City, launched a substantial marketing campaign to shame those who they described as “garbage” New Yorkers, litterers and “dog-poopetrators,” once and for all. The campaign is the first major anti-littering campaign by DSNY in at least 15 years, officials said. “New Yorkers have had enough of litter, enough of filth on our sidewalks, and enough of feeling like there’s nothing they can do about it,”
