UPDATE Poe Park Visitor Center Remains Closed, as Others Reopen

  Proclaiming that New York City was back open, after an almost 18-month long shutdown amid the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday, Sept. 13, that recreation centers across the city were once again open. Preston High School Hosts Alumnae Reunion After 16 Months

After 16 months of postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Preston High School, an all girls school located in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, finally got to host an alumnae reunion for the class years ending in zeros, fives, ones, and sixes on Saturday, Sept. 18.   According to the alumnae association, the celebration began with mass, followed by what was described as a delicious luncheon, catered by Posto 22, in the school’s cafeteria and back porch, with alumnae from various years in attendance.   Amid reported great joy and excitement, members of the classes of 1955 and

UPDATE Friends of Devoe Park Hold “Dancing in Unity” Event

  Friends of Devoe Park (FODP) hosted a “Dancing in Unity Fair,” on Saturday, Sept. 18, in Devoe Park, located in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx. The event featured a face painter, balloon animal artists, a DJ, food provided by Ms. Geneva’s 50/50, an ice cream truck sponsored by Fordham Toyota, and a variety of lawn activities, games, and crafts for children which were organized by the City Parks’ department.   Earl Evans, one of the balloon artists hired for the event, said the kids really enjoyed playing with the balloons and kept coming back to his tent

FEMA Warns Residents to Be Wary of Fraud and Scam Artists

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a warning to New Yorkers, once again in recent days, to be wary of fraud and scam artists. Agency officials said, after a disaster, scam artists, identity thieves and other criminals often attempt to take advantage of disaster survivors.
