The son of a man killed outside of a Norwood church is speaking out for the first time–as police continue to hunt for the suspect, five weeks after the homicide. Edgar Perez, 46, was hosting a late-night baptism party on Aug. 25 around 3:20 a.m. in the basement of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Avenue when a man who had attempted to crash the party earlier in the evening shot Perez outside the church. Crime File: Police Officer Shot Dead in Edenwald

Police Officer Shot Dead in Edenwald This weekend saw a Bronx police officer fatally shot after struggling with a suspect he was trying to arrest for refusing to stop for questioning. The suspect was later shot by police. According to officials, officers from Patrol Borough Bronx’s anti-crime unit were patrolling at the New York City Housing Authority’s Edenwald Houses, following a recent shooting and reports of gang activity. The officer attempted to stop the man for questioning, when a foot chase and struggle began and multiple shots were fired at 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 behind 1129 E. 229th St.

Train service on the 4 subway line heading downtown came to a halt this morning after a man killed himself as he jumped to the tracks and to an oncoming train while attempting to take his five-year-old daughter with him, according to eye witnesses. This week we asked readers if they have noticed a union-suggested work slowdown by NYPD officers following the firing of Officer Daniel Pantaleo for using an illegal chokehold that killed Eric Garner. I actually haven’t noticed any slowdown. Where I live, there’s always cops; they just pass by all the time and they’re always running around. They’re very kind and we thank them all the time for being around. They’re also always around when I see them at six in the morning. Two men were under arrest in the shooting death of a 27-year-old Bedford Park man after detectives tracked them down through video security cameras, police said. Israel Lagares became the fifth homicide victim in the 52nd Precinct so far this year after he was fatally shot twice in the chest shortly after 10 p.m. on Aug. 16 in front of 2734 Bainbridge Ave., just blocks from his home. Energy Drink Robbery The NYPD needs the public’s help in identifying a man possibly linked to stealing three-dozen cans of Monster Energy at a store in Fordham after threatening the clerk with a hypodermic needle. Police in the 52nd Precinct got the call around 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Rite Aid store at 49 W. Fordham Rd. The 38-year-old suspect was stopped by the clerk until he flashed the needle.
