Sanchez Introduces Bill Inspired by Billingsley Terrace Partial Building Collapse in Morris Heights
City Councilmember (C.D.14) Pierina Sanchez joined the The Legal Aid Society, and tenants gathered outside City Hall on April 25 to announce new legislation in response to the partial building collapse that occurred at 1915 Billingsley Terrace in Morris Heights on Dec. 11, 2023, forcing over 150 tenants to lose their homes, as reported.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Monday, May 20, that after being closed for nearly 15 years, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will begin accepting applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, reopening a wait list that has been closed to general applications for nearly 15 years.

Fordham University Holds Climate Summit, Receives $50M Grant
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Democratic Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15), gathered at Fordham University for a climate summit on April 8 to celebrate the awarding to the university of $50 million in grants for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Region 2 environmental justice initiatives. According to Fordham, it is the largest grant the university has ever received in its 183-year history.

Two Entrances to Norwood-205th Bainbridge Avenue Station Closed for Stairway Repair Work
Straphangers entering or exiting the Norwood-205th Subway Station, serving the D train will notice that two of the four entrances to the station are now covered by a construction shed as repairs to the entrance stairways are underway. The project is expected to be completed by July, according to NYC Department of Transportation.
