Norwood Residents Hold Art Event in Support of Gaza in the Williamsbridge Oval

Bronx Neighbors for Palestine held a “Make Art to Let Gaza Live” event in the Williamsbridge Oval in Norwood, by the Reservoir Oval West entrance, on Sunday afternoon, June 9. The event was organized in efforts to raise awareness about the plight of everyday Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank amid the ongoing war with Israel.

City Council Passes Sanchez Bill Inspired by Billingsley Terrace Partial Building Collapse

The New York City Council announced on Thursday, June 20, the passage of Int. No. 904-A, a bill designed to establish a first-of-its-kind, proactive inspection program at NYC Department of Buildings (DOB). The Billingsley Terrace Structural Integrity Act was introduced by City Council Member Pierina Sanchez (C.D. 14) on April 25, as reported, in response to the partial building collapse that occurred at 1915 Billingsley Terrace in Morris Heights on Dec. 11, 2023, forcing over 150 tenants to lose their homes, as reported.

The mailer violated both principles and revealed the brand of leadership that (Assemblyman) Jeff Dinowitz (A.D. 81) and his slate have and will provide.

We the undersigned members of the steering committee of Northwest Bronx Indivisible are deeply offended by the Ben Franklin Democratic Club’s 81st A.D. mailer. As community members, voters, and activists, we care about truth and decency in political discourse. The mailer violates both principles through its inflammatory accusations that the Unity (Democratic) Club candidates use antisemitic tropes and disregard public safety. We condemn the mailer. We believe it distorts truth.

Violent Start to Gun Violence Awareness Month

At least seven people have been murdered in The Bronx, according to the NYPD, in the first 14 days of June, which marks “Gun Violence Awareness Month.” Five of those victims were stabbed, while two victims were shot, police said.

Clean The Bronx and Get Free Yankees Tickets as Part of the Summer Clean-up Series

The Sanitation Foundation, the official nonprofit partner of NYC Department of Sanitation, in conjunction with The Office of the Bronx Borough President, is gearing up to kick off the Fourth Annual Bronx Summer Clean-up Series. The Foundation is also working in partnership with The New York Yankees, with the support of NYC Service and Amazon. Throughout the summer, volunteers will be cleaning up five of the borough’s most interesting and vibrant neighborhoods. The first clean-up event will take place on June 22.
