The community was buzzing and rumors were flying about what would become of the vacant storefront on the corner of Jerome Avenue and Mosholu Parkway North. Those rumors can be put aside now as the signage for The Corner Pizza Shop was unveiled two weekends ago, just before Super Storm Sandy hit the Bronx.

Bronx Notes: Business Workshop for Women Veterans

The Bronx Women’s Business Resource Center is offering a series of free workshops open to the public to explore different industries and business opportunities in various Bronx locations. Topics include food, fashion, credit, medical, blogging, exporting and veteran opportunities. Gas Rationing Implemented in the Bronx, Other Boroughs

As this AP video explains, Mayor Bloomberg is trying to ease the build-up of lines at gas stations throughout the Bronx and the rest of New York City. The system is pretty simple — if your license plate ends with an even number you can fill up on even numbered day and the same for cars that have license plates that end in odd numbers. For example, today is Nov. 9, so cars with odd-numbered ending plates can fill up today. Evens will go tomorrow.

During a forum tonight at Monroe College (6:30 p.m., 2501 Jerome Ave.), the two competing developers looking to revamp the Bronx’s long-vacant Kingsbridge Armory will have a chance to talk face-to-face with the community. It might be their last opportunity to sway locals into their corner before the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which is controlled by the mayor, makes a decision on which group gets the bid.

Bronx Biz: Fordham BID Expands Sanitation Services

In plans unveiled at a press conference in September, the Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) announced plans to expand its sanitation services east on Fordham Road to Washington Avenue to include One Fordham Plaza (the property) as well as the outdoor vendors’ market. The services are also being offered north on Webster Avenue to include Cookies Department Store.

Pizzeria Owner Says He Was Set Up for a Robbery By Bogus Tip (Update)

Fresh off an overnight stay in jail, the relatively new owner of Sal’s Pizza and Restaurant says his very public arrest during dinner time on Tuesday evening was based on erroneous information given to police and that he was the victim of a robbery set up. Musa Neishewat, who purchased the popular Norwood eatery last winter, said police entered his packed restaurant on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., saying they were told that drugs and guns were being sold from his establishment.
