HPD Announces Launch of “Heat Season”

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announced on Friday, Oct. 1, the beginning of New York City’s eight-month-long “heat season,” during which all residential building owners are required to maintain indoor temperatures at 68 degrees when outdoor temperatures fall below 55 degrees during the day. Indoor temperatures must also be maintained at a minimum of 62 degrees overnight, regardless of outdoor temperatures. The NYPD confirm that on Friday, Oct. 1, at 00.01 a.m., an off-duty New York City employee was arrested and charged in the 50th precinct. Jermack Romero, 39, an NYPD officer with the 44th precinct in the Bronx, was charged with two offenses: assault and criminal mischief. In response to a follow-up inquiry, the NYPD confirmed by phone to the Norwood News on Sunday, Oct. 3, that the two charges arose from a domestic violence incident. The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual seen in the attached video and photograph who is wanted for questioning in connection with an assault that occurred in the 52nd precinct. It was reported to police that on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at approximately 2.15 p.m., inside a BX41 MTA bus, which was stopped at 2953 Webster Avenue in Bedford Park, the individual pushed a 61-year-old man off the bus. People who are blind and use screen readers will now have independent access to life-saving information offered by “NY-Alert,” New York State’s Mass Notification System.
