Trash, Curbside Composting and Recycling Collection Changes over Thanksgiving Weekend

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that in observance of Thanksgiving Day, there will be no trash, curbside composting or recycling collection on Thursday, Nov. 25. Residents who normally receive Thursday trash or curbside composting collection may place their material at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight Thursday evening. However there will be collection delays, as is common after holidays. They ask residents to be patient while they await collection. Residents who normally receive Thursday recycling collection should place their material out at curbside between 4 p.m. and midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 1, for pick-up on Thursday, Dec. 2.

The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance identifying the individual seen in the attached video who is sought for questioning in connection to an assault that occurred in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, located in the 47th precinct. It was reported to police that on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at approximately 10.58 a.m. in front of 3550 Holland Avenue, an individual who was unknown to a 36-year-old male victim, displayed a firearm and shot him. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and leg. EMS responded and removed the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.

The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in ascertaining the whereabouts of a 63-year-old man reported missing on Tuesday, Nov. 23, from the Kingsbridge neighborhood, located in the 50th precinct. Thomas Rosa, Thomas, 63, of 3632 Tibbett Avenue in Kingsbridge was last seen at his home at 11.30 hours on Tuesday, Nov. 23. He is described as being 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds and was last seen wearing a green and black, flannel shirt over a gray, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and blue sneakers. A “coquerel’s sifaka” baby (propithecus coquereli), born at the Bronx Zoo, has made its public debut. According to Bronx Zoo officials, the birth is the result of the hard work and husbandry expertise of the zoo’s keepers and will be featured on this week’s episode of Animal Planet’s THE ZOO. The NYPD announced that the annual balloon inflation ahead of the Thanksgiving Day parade celebrations in Manhattan will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 24, from noon to 6 p.m. Spectators may enter the queue at West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue. Large backpacks, coolers, alcoholic beverages, chairs and umbrellas are expressly prohibited and participants will be screened prior to entering the viewing route. At the organizer’s request, all attendees over aged 12 must be vaccinated and provide proof to the screeners in order to attend the balloon inflation. Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced on Monday, Nov. 22, that Bronx resident, Latonia Stewart, was sentenced for burglarizing six homes of families she targeted who were attending funeral services of loved ones between 2017 and 2018. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) formally announced the restart of the Bronx Bus Network Redesign process on Thursday, Oct. 28, with a final virtual public meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. MTA officials said the virtual public meeting is aimed at further promoting public consciousness around the project and will allow riders one more opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed final plan.
