DOE Expansion of Gifted & Talented Program to All 32 School Districts Starts May 31

Schools Chancellor David Banks and Mayor Eric Adams announced the expansion of New York City Department of Education’s (DOE) Gifted & Talented program for the school year 2022-2023 on April 14. The public school program offers accelerated instruction to eligible elementary school students in New York City.   With the addition of 100 kindergarten seats, and 1,000 third-grade seats, both these entry points to the program are being expanded to all 32 school districts for the first time, bringing the total number of available seats to 2,500. UPDATE Kingsbridge: New Jersey Man Arrested following Murder of 43-Year-Old Bronx Man

Police said a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Daniel Valdez, 43, in Kingsbridge on May 2.   Police said on Monday, May 2, at 5.53 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man who had been assaulted at a location on Irwin Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a 43-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the torso. EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem where he was pronounced deceased. UPDATE Court Orders New Redistricting Maps, Primary Election Postponed to August 23

A new deadline of May 20 for revised 2022 redistricting maps for the congressional and State senate districts has been ordered by the New York State Supreme Court, according to court documents filed April 29, and the 2022 primary date for congressional and State elections has been postponed to Tuesday, August 23.  The court also ordered a new deadline for receipt of overseas and military ballots for the primaries of July 8.   The orders were documented in court paperwork filed with the State of New York Supreme Court, Steuben County on April 29.
