Castle Hill: 62-Year-Old Woman Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Van

A 62-year-old woman has died following a traffic accident in Castle Hill.

 

On Saturday, May 14, at approximately 11.02 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian who had been hit at Olmstead Avenue and Seward Avenue, in the 43rd precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious and unresponsive 62-year-old woman with trauma about the body.

 

EMS responded to the location and transported the aided woman to Jacobi Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. A preliminary investigation revealed a 54-year-old man had been driving a 2004 Ford van traveling southbound on Olmstead Avenue and made a left turn onto Seward Avenue, striking the pedestrian as she was crossing the avenue. The driver of the Ford van remained at the scene and was later taken into custody. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Tian-Rong Lin,  62, of Chatterton Avenue in the Unionport section of The Bronx.

 

Ramon Cedeno-Ortiz, 54, of Newman Avenue in the Clason Point section of the borough was arrested and charged on Saturday, May 14, at 2.37 p.m. in the 43rd precinct. He was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
