NYPD Seizes $54,000 in Fireworks and 6 Illegal Handguns Ahead of Independence Day

The New York City Police Department announced on Saturday, July 3, that it has taken $54,000 worth of illegal fireworks off the streets in the weeks leading up to Sunday’s Fourth of July holiday. Agency officials said these actions were made in collaboration with the NYC Sherriff’s Office, the FDNY Fire Marshall and the NYC Fireworks Task Force which is comprised of multiple agencies including the New York State Police, New Jersey State Police, and Port Authority Police.   In three separate Intelligence Bureau operations carried out in June and early July, agency officials said investigators made 22 fireworks-related arrests

Fourth of July Traffic Advisory and Street Closures

The New York City Police Department announced on Friday that street closures will take place during the Macy’s Annual Fireworks Display over the East River. The event takes place on Sunday, July 4, 2021, beginning at about 9.20 p.m. and ends at around 9.50 p.m.   The department reminds spectators that no large backpacks, large coolers, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, umbrellas or alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the viewing areas. Jerome Park: Man Arrested After Being Spotted by Police Tossing Weapon

Officers from the 52nd precinct who were on routine patrol on Thursday arrested a man who they say tossed a weapon near the corner of Morris Avenue and Jerome Avenue in the Jerome Park neighborhood.   The man was apprehended at 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, at the intersection of Jerome Avenue and Morris Avenue after a short pursuit from 198th Street and Jerome Avenue. Wakefield: Search for Two Men Sought in connection with Assault

Bedford Park: 33-Year-Old Man Shot Several Times inside Residential Building

Police are looking for the gunman who shot and wounded a 33-year-old man in Bedford Park on Sunday, June 27 at 9.05 a.m.   According to police the man was shot several times inside a five-story apartment building on East 199th Street, close to Marion Avenue, in the 52nd precinct.   He sustained several gunshot wounds. EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas hospital in stable condition. Con Ed Estimates 8.30 p.m. for Restoration of Remaining Bronx Power Outages following Storm

Con Edison crews are continuing the repair of equipment and the restoration of power for customers affected by the recent four-day heat wave and subsequent storm, the company confirmed on Thursday, July 1.   Con Ed officials said their crews have worked non-stop, often in extreme heat conditions, in order to return power to customers who experienced outages over the course of the recent heat wave. About 1,000 customers remained out of service as of the Thursday afternoon, out of a total of 3.5 million customers, meaning the majority of customers were unaffected by the heat and the storm.
