State Sen. Robert Jackson (S.D. 31) who represents much of the West Bronx and Northern Manhattan, has endorsed Izaiah Zeet Barrow, co-founder of the nonprofit, Theory 9, in his bid to become elected as district leader in Assembly District 81, which broadly covers Kingsbridge, Van Cortlandt Village, Norwood, Marble Hill, Spuyten Duyvil, Riverdale, Woodlawn and Wakefield. Barrow announced his candidacy in February, as reported.

A.D. 81 is currently represented by Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81) in Albany. The assemblyman is running for reelection in the district and is being challenged for his assembly seat, which he has held for over 30 years, by teacher and disability activist, Morgan Evers, 42.

Norwood News asked the senator for his reasons for endorsing Barrow and he said, “Every thriving community has people who quietly do the work of bringing others together. Through his commitment to our youth, his support for families, and his dedication to neighborhood life, Izaiah Barrow has helped strengthen the bonds that hold a community together.”

Jackson continued, “His leadership grows not from a title, but from service; not from recognition, but from relationships. At a time when people are searching for connection and trust, his work stands as a reminder that the strongest communities are built neighbor by neighbor, block by block, and generation by generation. That is why I endorsed him for District Leader of the 81st Assembly District.”

Izaiah Barrow is running alongside current District Leader Abigail Martin (A.D. 81), as part of slate of candidates which includes former Unity Democratic Club president and co-founder, Betsey Knapp, and Bereket Ghebredmedhin, who are both running as state committee representatives in A.D. 81.
