Nurses Week Marked at Jacobi & NCB

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi | North Central Bronx celebrated National Skilled Nursing Care Week from May 10 to May 16, by recognizing nursing professionals with a speaking program, awards, talent show, an ice-cream truck social, and the distribution of treats.

Hospital officials said the talent show featured fashion, cultural dancing from Jamaica, Albania, and Nigeria, and the performance of meaningful songs that showcased the nurses’ talent, while their colleagues cheered them on. They added that the gratitude extended beyond nursing to also celebrate staff who work alongside nursing professionals in providing care to the community.

Hospital officials said Soosy Joseph, RN, BSN took home the prestigious Nightingale Award, the nursing team’s highest honor. Noel Rivera accepted the Rising Star Award. Briana Kimble was recognized with the Excellence in Leadership Award and Tua Sumary and Violeta Matias shared the PCA/PCT of the Year title.

Additionally, they said Jo Ann Triplett was named Surgical Tech of the Year, Sharon Guerro was recognized as Clerical Staff Member of the Year for what they said was her “indispensable behind-the-scenes contributions,” and Steven Lee received the Friend of Nursing Award for what was described as “his steadfast support of the nursing team.”

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Hospital leadership, Stand Up to Violence (SUV), staff, and community members are gearing up to mark Gun Violence Awareness Month in June and will be holding a a peace walk on Thursday, June 11, at the corner of Wallace Avenue and Astor Avenue at 5.30 p.m. The walk will finish at East 229th Street and White Plains Road.
