A 29-year-old New Jersey man has was killed in the Unionport section of The Bronx in the early hours of Sunday, May 24, police said.

Police said that police responded to a 911 call on Sunday at around 00.17 a.m. regarding a man who had been shot in front of 2201 Haviland Avenue, within the confines of the 43rd Precinct.

“Upon arrival, officers were informed a 29-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to the chest,” a police spokesperson said. “The victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital by private means where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.”

Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Some bottles of liquor and a lighter were seen on the sidewalk at the location though they had not been labeled or taken away as evidence so were likely not relevant.

The remains of police tape was also seen at the scene suggesting the crime scene unit had already wrapped up their investigation.
On Sunday afternoon, the deceased was identified as Jonathan Valentin from Maywood, NJ.
