Two teens were arrested at Parkchester Subway Station in The Bronx on Wednesday, April 8, for subway surfing police said.
Police said that on Wednesday, April 8, officers from the TARU Transit Drone Team were conducting a joint subway surfing operation in The Bronx with members of the Transit Bureau Anti-Terrorism Unit and Transit District 12.at around 7.37 p.m. when a drone operator observed two males “hanging off the rear of a northbound 6 express train” as it was traveling between the Hunts Point Avenue and Parkchester subway stations in the confines of the 41st Precinct/Transit District 12.
“Upon arrival at the Parkchester subway station, officers canvassed the area and placed a 14-year-old male and a 13-year-old male in custody,” a police spokesperson said. “As the officers were conducting an investigation, the 14-year-old male was found to be in possession of a modified MTA door key.”
Police said the unnamed 14-year-old male was charged with reckless endangerment, possession of burglars tools, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.
They said the 13-year-old male was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct. Both are presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
In a video posted online by the NYPD, the two youths, dressed in dark clothing, are seen from a far away distance subway surfing on the 6 train, bound for Pelham Bay Park.
The NYPD added, “Subway surfing is deadly. Don’t risk it. When two teens tried it in the Bronx, our transit officers and drone team took action and safely stopped the train. This year, we have saved over 47 people, thanks to our coordination. Our message is clear: Ride inside. Stay alive.”

The NYPD previously launched a public awareness campaign around the dangers of subway surfing, both visual and audio, with the help of various celebrities. They were seen and heard in various subway stations in efforts to deter youth from subway surfing, following a series of fatalities linked to such activity.
