Belmont: Man Sought for Assault & Robbery inside Church

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the person seen in the attached photo who they said is wanted in connection with robbery and assault that occurred in Belmont.

Police said that on Wednesday, Dec. 24, at around 6 p.m., an unknown individual entered a church located at 627 East 187th Street, the address for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and removed a candle from the altar.

They said a 64-year-old man approached the suspect to retrieve the candle and the suspect then struck the victim in the face, causing a fractured orbital bone. They said the suspect then fled the location in an unknown direction, EMS responded to the scene, and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
