Firefighters were seen responding to a car fire in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx in the early hours of Saturday, Dec. 13. Norwood News has reached out to both the FDNY and the NYPD for more information on the incident. An FDNY spokesperson said they responded to a report of car fire and that the incident “closed normally [with] no patients.” We will share further details from the NYPD, should they become available.

One police unit, an ambulance, and a pick-up service were also observed at the scene. Norwood News spoke to three young men estimated to be in their twenties at the scene who said they didn’t see the fire erupt from the outset, but appeared to think it started in the hood of the vehicle.

They said there was nobody inside the car, and they earlier witnessed an ambulance. [One ambulance was still on site but parked a short distance away from the FDNY extinguishing operations.]

The three said another group of four people who were also standing close to the scene, and who were later seen talking to police, might have had more information about what happened. The second group were also young and comprised one young woman and three young men, estimated to be in their late teens or early twenties.

The young woman declined to be interviewed. One of the young men said, “It was just an accident, nothing big, nothing major, and not even worth the press to be honest.” Asked if he owned the car, the young man, while walking away, appeared to say he did not though we could not hear exactly what he said.

A police unit was seen guarding the burned out vehicle at the same location about 40 minutes after the FDNY activities had wrapped up.

The previous day, Saturday, Dec. 12, as reported, human remains were found in nearby Van Cortlandt Park opposite Woodlawn Cemetery, according to the NYPD.
