An older female adult driver was seemingly hospitalized following a car accident in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx on Sunday night, Sept. 28.

An NYPD spokesperson said that the incident took place at 354 East Mosholu Parkway at 9.25 p.m. on Sunday. “We have a vehicle which struck a building at the location and there was a female inside the vehicle who was removed from the vehicle,” a police spokesperson told Norwood News. “She was pinned initially inside the vehicle. I do not have any critical injuries listed.”

Both the NYPD and EMS were seen at the location of the crash along with a group of people who seemed to be waiting to see if the victim, who was being treated inside an ambulance, was ok. We attempted to speak to the group but they declined to be interviewed.

An officer at the scene said the driver of the car had mounted the sidewalk and crashed into the wall of the residential building on East Mosholu Parkway South at Marion Avenue.

We contacted FDNY/EMS for more information on the woman’s injuries as it wasn’t clear if she was only treated at the scene or if she was hospitalized finally. We will share any feedback we receive.

Later, Norwood News spoke to Steve Ferrentino, a neighbor of the injured woman, who said he and his friend witnessed the crash and believed their neighbor was taken away in an ambulance and that she was the only person injured.

“What happened was she was coming down [Mosholu Parkway South] and tries to park because she lives in the building,” Ferrentino said. “I think she lost control right here. She scratched the BMW truck that was on the corner. He was turning [inaudible] and she hit his bumper and then she just lost control and went into the wall, almost to the guy’s house!” There appeared to be less damage to at least one other dark-colored car.

He continued, “I’m standing right here listening to the thing. I look, I say, ‘Holy sh*t!’ [inaudible]. We mentioned that it seemed strange to imagine how the car could have ended up where it did on the relatively narrow sidewalk in between the building and other parked cars.

“Yeah, I think what happened… she’s old,” Ferrentino said. “She’s like 70 years old.” We asked where exactly she was trying to park. “I don’t know,” he said. “She lives right here in the building [on East Mosholu Parkway South just before Marion Avenue]. She’s usually good. I usually say hi to her. She parks her sh*t and..  I know her, yeah. Elderly lady. I went over and said hi to her. She was in shock in the car. It was just her in the car.”

He said the people waiting by the ambulance were the victim’s family members. We asked if she had been taken to a hospital and he said he believed she was, via ambulance.

“She was in complete shock,” Ferrentino added. “She was looking at me like ‘What happened?’ But she’s good. God is good.” He said the woman didn’t look to be in bad physical shape, just in shock.

When Norwood News said hopefully the woman would be able to claim on her insurance for the damage, Ferrentino replied, “That’s what’s going to kill her because she hit the car, the building, everything!”

The NYPD handles all criminal aspects of collision investigations while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the site of such crashes. We’ll share any additional information we receive on the incident.
