One person was hospitalized following a residential fire in the Parkchester section of The Bronx on Sunday, Sept. 21, FDNY officials said.
An FDNY spokesperson said the department received a call at 00.49 a.m. on Sunday for a report of a fire on the 6th floor of 1722 Purdy Street between Metropolitan Avenue and East Tremont Avenue.
They said 12 units, comprising 60 fire and EMS personal responded to the location and EMS later transported one patient to Montefiore Hospital. They said the patient’s description and condition were unknown and added that the fire was brought under control at 1.39 a.m. They said fire marshals are investigating the cause.
When contacted later on Sunday about any displaced residents, a representative from The Red Cross of Greater New York told Norwood News, “Our responders went to the scene but were unable to connect with the residents affected by the fire on Purdue St. in The Bronx. Anyone displaced by this fire should call 877-RED CROSS (option 1) to speak with a responder.”
As reported, there were no injuries following a fire at 682 Allerton Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 20.
