Yonkers Teenager Charged in Shooting of 15-Year-Old

Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced on Tuesday, Nov. 21, that Yonkers resident, Joseph Tejera, 19, was charged in connection with the October 2022 shooting of a 15-year-old in the City of Yonkers. Tejera is being held without bail.

 

Tejera was arraigned before Judge Anne Minihan in Westchester County Court on Nov. 22 and charged by a Westchester County grand jury with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, all violent felonies.

 

On Oct. 26, at around 10.22 p.m., Tejera allegedly fired three shots at the 15-year-old victim, striking him twice, on Woodworth Avenue in Yonkers. The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx, where he underwent emergency medical treatment.

 

The Yonkers Police Department arrested the defendant in The Bronx on Nov. 2, 2022, following an investigation. The case is before Judge Anne Minihan in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by the Violence Criminal Enterprise Bureau of the Trials and Investigations Division.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
