Police said they have made an arrest in the fatal daylight shooting of a 20-year-old man in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx in April 2025.
As reported, a police spokesperson said that on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at around 1.33 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an assault in progress at 3724 Bronxwood Avenue [a corner deli] by East 217th Street.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the neck and chest,” the spokesperson said, adding that EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in Morris Park, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Police said there were no arrests at the time and the investigation remained ongoing.
On May 19 [2026], police said pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Marlon Smith, 22, of Co-Op City in The Bronx was arrested on Monday, May 18, at 8.20 p.m. in the confines of the 47th Precinct, which broadly covers the north and northeast Bronx neighborhoods of Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald, Olinville, Fishbay, and Woodlawn Cemetery.
They said he has been charged with murder. Smith is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
As reported at the time, Norwood News spoke to some workers at the deli later on the day of the incident but they said they weren’t working at the time the shooting took place. We also spoke to some other residents but they said they had not been at home when the shooting happened and didn’t know anything about it.

Other residents declined to comment. The deceased was identified as Sorai King of Williamsbridge, The Bronx.
