Police said they have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection to a fatal hit & run incident which resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman in the West Farms section of The Bronx in July 2022.

The NYPD said the incident occurred on Friday, July 1, 2022 at around 10.18 p.m. when officers from the 48th Precinct said they responded to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian who had been struck in front of 1922 West Farms Road.

A police spokesperson said at the time, “Upon arrival, officers discovered a unidentified, female victim in her approximate 30s, unconscious and unresponsive, lying in the roadway with severe body trauma.” The spokesperson continued, “EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.”

According to an investigation by the NYPD’s highway district collision investigation squad, the woman had been attempting to cross West Farms Road and was hit by a white van traveling at high speed along the road in a southbound direction. “The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene,” the police spokesperson said. There were initially no arrests, and the NYPD highway collision investigation squad continued with their investigation.

On July 4, 2022, the deceased woman was identified as Jessica Brown, who was undomiciled.

On Thursday, March 16, police said Dean Moflehi from the Clason Point section of The Bronx was arrested the same day at 11 a.m. in connection with the incident. He was charged with leaving an accident which resulted in a death.

A person charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
