A stabbing has occurred in the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx on Monday evening, July 20, close to the location of a Wellness Center where a 27-year-old woman fell unconscious on Sunday, July 19, and later died, as reported.

It’s unknown if the two incidents are related but a stretch of Riverdale Avenue around the address for the Wellness Center at 3190 Riverdale Avenue was cordoned off by police on Monday evening.

 

Norwood News asked the NYPD for more details of the stabbing and they said a 35-year-old male was stabbed in the chest during a dispute at 5 p.m. They said he was transferred to St. Barnabas Hospital in Belmont by EMS in critical condition and the investigation is ongoing.

 

According to a subsequent news report on the stabbing in Spanish from Johandry Jimenez, who obtained a live video of the assault, thanks to the quick intervention of two Dominican press workers, the victim was reportedly able to receive immediate care prior to the arrival of an ambulance and his subsequent transfer to a nearby hospital.

Jimenez reported that the motive for the stabbing appears to have stemmed from a verbal dispute between three occupants of a car and a pedestrian which quickly escalated into a physical fight. Norwood News is currently unable to independently confirm this account but will share any additional information we receive.

 

Jimenez went on to report that media coverage was forced to pause when facing the severity of the injuries and the urgency of the moment, the two cameramen set down their equipment in order assist the victim. “In an act that prioritized humanity over news, the two cameramen interrupted their work to help the young man who was seriously injured,” she reported, adding that the incident happened while both were broadcasting live for their respective media outlets. She added that she believes one was from News12.

 

Police also said the mobilization point (for police) for the stabbing was at the address of the center but the stabbing took place in the vicinity of the center.

Norwood News had asked the NYPD the day before if they could say if the arrest of the man at the wellness center on Sunday, and the subsequent stabbing on Monday were related. Police had said it was unknown at the time. We were advised that the stabbing took place in the vicinity of the Wellness Center (Norwood News estimates around a block in distance) though not in front of it. However, the center was also seen cordoned off behind police lines as part of the investigation into the stabbing on Monday, as above.

 

As reported, the NYPD said Monday they had arrested 55-year-old Luis Rojas Cabrera of New Jersey on Sunday, July 19, and that he had been charged with reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of profession after a 27-year-old woman was found unconscious at the center located on the border of the Kingsbridge and Riverdale sections of The Bronx on July 19 and later died.

According to one police source, the woman was a customer / patient of Bereshit Wellness Center, located at 3190 Riverdale Avenue, where she was found unconscious. The website for the center is www.drluisrojas.com.

 

As above, the center is located a short distance away from where the stabbing occurred, though, when contacted, the NYPD press office was unable to say exactly where on Riverdale Avenue the stabbing occurred. Blood stains were seen on Riverdale Avenue between Tibbett Delta  and Ewen Park, a short distance away from the intersection with Irvin Avenue.

 

Rojas Cabrera is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
