A 24-year-old man has died following a fatal shooting in the Crotona section of The Bronx.
Police said that on Saturday, May 6, at approximately 4.30 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at 4371 Third Avenue, just south of the Belmont border. “Upon arrival, officers determined that a 29-year-old male was shot in the chest at the location and was transported via private means to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” a police spokesperson said.
“A firearm was recovered. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing,” the spokesperson added. The deceased was later identified on May 6 as Ishberit Carrera, 24, of Intervale Avenue from the Longwood section of The Bronx. A GoFundMe fundraiser page has been created by Pilar Carrera, sister of the victim.
An accompanying message on the fundraising site, read in part, “As many of you know, my brother was murdered. The details surrounding this heinous crime are still developing, so there’s not much information to give out. Ishberit (Izzy) was very loved by every one who has ever met him. His first impression was always a powerful impression and no one could [forget] who Izzy was.”
It continued, “He was a son, a brother, a friend… He could make anyone smile ! He had such an amazing soul. He loved his family dearly and we all love him just as much. It’s been extremely difficult in terms of arranging things but if anyone would like to donate, this is the official page to. As reported, a 34-year-old man was killed and a second man was shot in Crotona on March 25, at around 3.07 a.m. when officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at the intersection of East 179th Street and Mapes Avenue.
