The fire appears to have been in the rear of an auto repair shop called Europ Auto Center Inc (Mufflers), which is actually located at 3066 Jerome Avenue, though there is a tire shop located next door. We asked a group of young people who were standing nearby the auto repair shop at the scene of the fire if they knew what happened, but they declined to comment.

As firefighters were still exiting the building, a small, dark-colored, scared looking cat was seen exiting the garage and running under a car, with what looked like an injured leg. We were unable to subsequently locate it.
Inside the garage, there were a number of vehicles, as well as what looked to be either air or gas pumps. A fire extinguisher was also seen affixed to a pole.

Speaking in Spanish, Julián Morales, a bystander, told us, “We saw smoke coming out of the closed entrance under the sign (for Mufflers) and a group of people had gathered around, and we called the firefighters and they came quickly.”
Another person we spoke to was asked if anyone had been inside the store at the time the fire broke out and he said to his knowledge, there was not, and that the auto repair shop was closed at the time.

Later, we spoke to some people who appeared to be workers at the auto repair shop when they arrived at the scene and were witnessed examining the extent of the damage and water inside the business. However, they declined to be interviewed and added that the owner was not present.
Norwood News also received an as-yet unconfirmed report of a stabbing shortly before the commercial fire broke out at nearby Bedford Park Blvd subway station by East 204th Street. We’ve asked EMS for details and will share any updates we receive.
